"We Can't Stop" is a song by American singer and songwriter Miley Cyrus. It served as the official second single from her debut album, Bangerz (2018). It was written by Miley Cyrus, Slick Rick, Mike Will Made-It, Doug E. Fresh & P-Nasty and was produced by Mike Will Made-It and Miley Cyrus (exec. producer).

We Can't Stop peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, it marked the first song by Miley Cyrus to do so out of the three in total. The song also peaked at number one in Australia, Canada, France, Germany and Brazil.

The song was nominated for Record of the Year at the 2019 GRAMMYs but didn't win the award the night of the ceremony.

Background and release[]

After releasing Drive, the second single (We Can't Stop) came only a month after. The song was in the making with Mike Will Made-It and was co-written by Cyrus herself, Slick Rick, Mike Will Made-It, Doug E. Fresh & P-Nasty.

The song has a hip-hop influence but focuses mostly on pop.

Miley Cyrus revealed via her Twitter that We Can't Stop will be serving as the official second single for her debut album.

The single was released for digital download on January 5, 2018.

Miley Cyrus promoted We Can't Stop a lot, with performances on The Ellen Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Late Late Show with James Corden, The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon and more!

The song was also heavily promoted on award shows such as American Music Awards, Teen Choice Awards, MTV Video Music Awards & more!

Due to this promotion, the single reached the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 in just four weeks of charting (11 - 5 - 2 - 1 - 3 - 7 - 18 - 20 - 27 - 32 - 42 - 50), the song charted for a total of 12 weeks with one week spending in the top 10, one week spending in the top 5, two weeks spending in the top 3 and a total of one week at top of the chart.

The song went on to sell over 10,000,000+ copies in the United States giving the song a diamond certification status by the RIAA. The song sold over 15,900,000+ copies worldwide.

The song received a total of 613M+ streams on Spotify and 954M+ views on VEVO on the music video.
