"Better Now" is a song by American singer Miley Cyrus. It was released on September 27, 2019 by Shadow Records and it was released three months after Don't Call Me Up. It was written by Miley Cyrus, Max Martin and Savan Kotecha. Andrew "Pop" Wansel is the main producer of the song, with help of Max Martin and Cyrus herself.

Background and release[]

After a succesful run with Don't Call Me Up (which topped the charts worldwide including the Billboard Hot 100), Miley Cyrus released Better Now, a month before her album "Secrets" is set to be released.

"The song is about knowing you're better off alone and don't need a man in your life (for now), it's better now that you're going and going your own path, the song talks about how the relationship went so completely broken" she told on her Twitter on September 22 after she brought the news she'll be releasing the tracklist of the album.

After she told her fans that a new song would be released, the song (Better Now) was put on pre-save for all streaming services (e.g. iTunes, Spotify, Apple Music).

Music video[]

Miley Cyrus released a lyric video for the single on October 3, 2019. The official music video was released on October 9, 2019, the music video tells the story of the relationship with multiple elements in it of how the relationship (between Miley and Liam) went so completely broken.

Critical reception[]

iHeartMedia got the chance to listen to the full album earlier this year when the album was finally finalized. About Better Now, they said the following: "This song shows Miley on a whole different side, with a 100% bad bitch attitude, amazing vocal ability and so much energy she owns this song. You can hear she's empowered and ready to live her life"

Promotion and sales[]

The song hasn't been promoted that much yet, Miley appeared on The Ellen Show, Z100 New York, 104.3 MYfm, The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, Live! With Kelly and Ryan, Entertainment Tonight Article and GENIUS Verified Lyrics interview. The song is set to be heavily promoted nearing the album release and during album (Secrets) release week.

With this promotion, the song debuted at #4 on the chart dated October 5, 2019 and was the hot shot debut of that week, the week following (chart dated October 12, 2019) the song fell two places to #6.
